Our not-for-profit club offers paddle trips on rivers, lakes and ponds as well as estuaries, marshes and coves. Trips are open to canoes and kayaks.

Would you like to improve your flatwater paddling skills? The RICKA Flatwater Group will be holding a Basic Flatwater Paddling Course on Sunday, July 13th at 9:00. In this 3-hour class, paddlers will learn the basic strokes and maneuvers to control their boats on flatwater. We will also cover basic rescue techniques. The class will take place at Stump Pond in Smithfield and will be free for RICKA members.

The people who coordinate RICKA trips are responsible for setting a meeting time and how to get to the put-in and take-out. The trip coordinators are unpaid volunteers who are not  professionals.  They are not and cannot be responsible for determining the adequacy of your skill level, your personal safety, well-being, or happiness. Trips are group events.  You, and you alone, are responsible for yourself    

PFD's (life vests) are required on all RICKA and Blackstone Valley Paddle Club trips.  Please stay out of channels and be aware of boating traffic. Canoes and kayaks do not have the right of way.

What is the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve?   The Reserve Purpose Statement:   "To protect, enhance and learn about the Narragansett Bay estuary and its watershed and to provide opportunities for long-term estuarine research, education, and stewardship."  The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve is located in the heart of Narragansett Bay on four islands: Prudence, Patience, Hope and Dyer. The  Reserve protects approximately 4400 acres of land and water.  Their website provides a   Printable tide chart.

Any paddle sport is an assumed risk sport. Some aspects of canoeing and kayaking involve the risk  of serious injury or death. The Rhode Island Canoe/Kayak Association (Rhode Island Canoe Association, Inc.), although safety conscious, cannot guarantee your personal safety in club activities. Each participant is responsible for his or her own training in boating and rescue techniques, equipment, and personal well-being when engaging in or attending club-organized activities.
